Schools Executive Order: MA Schools closed until May 4, 2020

March 25, 2020

Members of the Maynard Community:

Governor Baker announced at his afternoon press conference that he signed an executive order to keep all schools in Massachusetts closed until at least Monday, May 4.  At the press conference, both the Governor and DESE Commissioner Riley indicated that written guidance will be coming out to districts tomorrow morning and that a message to parents from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will be forthcoming.

I want to thank our staff, parents, and students for their support during this crisis. Our first two weeks have been focused on ensuring that our students' are safe, both physically and mentally, and ensuring their nutritional needs have been met.

Our educators have done a tremendous job staying connected to families and I hope the resources provided have proved to be beneficial. The educational plan developed with the administration and teachers in our district will carry us through April 7th, it ensures that staff will continue to provide academically enriching resources and contact parents/families weekly. I am so proud of our educators, they have done an amazing job staying in contact with their students and will continue to be part of your children’s lives in the weeks to come.

Based on the guidelines provided by DESE we will work cooperatively with the Maynard Education Association to create learning plans for our students. In the meantime, please continue to take advantage of the resources offered to you by our staff and on our website:

Per Commissioner Riley’s announcement our plan will begin in early April.

Thank You,

Mary Jane Rickson

Interim Superintendent of Schools
