The Maynard High School Bonfire Rally 11/23/2011

The Snack Shack will be open for the last time of the fall season this Wednesday night @ 5PM for the bonfire.  Hot Dogs, Pizza, Nachos, Hot Chocolate and more!  The Booster Club wishes to thank the many volunteers who made this season a success.  By having so much help, we were able to open for all but 1 Fall Sport Event.  Quite an achievement!!  Again, Thanks!!

Thanksgiving Holiday 11/23/2011

I would like to wish everyone in the Maynard School Community a happy Thanksgiving Holiday.  I love this holiday for two reasons; the first is that it is good to give thanks for all that we have.  We are blessed to live in the greatest state, in the greatest nation!  We are also very fortunate to be a part of this community because it is obvious to me that Maynard is a community that cares.  The food pantry, which has been spearheaded by former school committee member Mary Brannelly for 19 years, provided the supplies for approximately 125 families to help them have a happy Thanksgiving dinner.

The second reason I love Thanksgiving is as a result of the tradition for many of us is to spend time with family and friends that we do not get to see on a daily basis.  I will be attending our Thanksgiving morning football game against our rivals Clinton for the first half.  Then I will scoot over to Millis to cheer on my Alma Mater, the Medway Mustangs, and catch up with old friends there.  The cooperative arrangement with Bromfield has been a great success this year.  If you get a chance, please come support our football team at Clinton.  This is a great Thanksgiving tradition that gives us that opportunity to celebrate with good friends.

2nd Annual SEPAC Holiday Social 12/5/2011

The Maynard SEPAC invites Maynard Special Education students, parents and siblings to its 2nd Annual Holiday Social on Monday, December 5th from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Green Meadow School Cafeteria.   This family event will have lots of crafts, activities, and fun for the whole family!  Last year’s Holiday social was a huge success!  For more information or to RSVP, please contact Kyra Marino at kyramarino@comcast.net or visit our website at http://sepac.maynardschools.org.  This event is free and open to the whole family for students receiving Special Education services in Maynard.

Recent Events to Report:

Maynard High School Athletic Hall of Fame

The Maynard High School Athletic Hall of Fame held its fourth Induction ceremony on Saturday November 19, 2011 at the Maynard Lodge of Elks.  With nearly 300 people in attendance, it was a very successful “Celebration of Tradition and Excellence”.

The Mission of the Maynard High School Athletic Hall of Fame is:

·      To honor and perpetuate the memory of all former Maynard students, coaches and associated persons who have brought pride and distinction to the school system, the Town of Maynard and themselves, primarily through their high school athletic endeavors;

·      To be a positive presence in strengthening the bonds between Maynard student-athletes, parents, friends of Maynard Athletics and the Maynard community;

·      To instill and continue the tradition of excellence that has been characteristic of Maynard athletics;

·      To link past and current generations of student-athletes; and

·      To encourage current student athletes to embrace the many opportunities available to them through team work, hard work, determination, and dedication.

I can verify that the Maynard Athletic Hall of Fame Committee has achieved this mission.

I learned quite a bit about the history and traditions of Maynard High School athletics.  Many of the athletes told us of the virtues of work ethic and character that came from their participation in high school sports.  It is great to see this pride in our schools and community.

It is my hope that the School Committee and I can make decisions that will improve or expand the athletic programming in Maynard which will support this mission and increase school and community pride.

The Maynard High School Alma Mater

“To the glory of our school we raise our voices to the sky;

We pledge our faith and homage ever, where e’er our duty ever lies.

And in the tuneful chorus blending, her fame and honor never die, to thee our dear old alma mater, our dear old Maynard High.”
